When the Rains Are Over and Gone: Embracing the Yellows

Yellow. There is beauty in its colors—sunflowers, the sunset, dry leaves, lemons, and butterflies. It’s finally summer! You may dislike the heat when temperatures soar to 40 degrees here in the country, but after enduring heavy rains and storms, you learn to appreciate the beauty of this season. When the rains pass and the clouds clear, flowers bloom once again. The season of singing arrives, with the cooing of birds filling the air. Everything becomes a ray of sunshine—a hope and reassurance that God makes things better. The heavy rains will not last forever, and morning will bring joy. You’ll find yourself wanting to wake up and live the life He has called you to live.

Seasons come and go, and when a new one arrives, welcome it with a warm smile. Some days may bring tears, but they won’t last forever. Summer is here—you can start running and walking, swimming, and stepping outside to enjoy the warmth, feeling the rhythm of the sun’s rays. Because in just a few months, the cold rain and showers will return, making us long to stay indoors again. And as you grow older, you’ll realize that all you truly want is to be present in the season you’re in.

If you are hurting, cry in your room, pour your heart out to God, and plead for Him to remove the pain, the bruises, the sorrow, and the grief within you. And when you find healing in prayer and in meditating on His Word, you will discover joy, contentment, and pleasure in His presence. You will feel loved once again, drawn to His love and comforted by His forgiveness. Life will come alive before your eyes. You will see beyond what your feet can walk, beyond what your hands can touch, beyond what your ears can hear. You will see everything in Him, and it will make you long for more of Him. In Him, you will find fullness.

You will come to understand that there is nothing more ideal, nothing more beautiful, than being in His presence. Others may hurt you, betray you, and withhold love from you—but none of that matters when you know you are deeply loved by God. You will find yourself forgiving because you recognize that, just like them, you have no goodness apart from Him. You are loved and forgiven through the blood of Christ, and your worth is in Him alone.

You will find reassurance in His promises—that no matter what the world says, God's Word is what truly matters. You will see His light guiding you day after day, and you’ll realize that you are never alone. You’ll begin to understand the beauty of waiting for Him, of trusting in His timing rather than relying on your own might, will, mind, heart, or strength. You’ll recognize His voice—a soft whisper—because He is always near.

In His presence, you will learn to surrender. You will lay down your wants and desires, your sins—your frustrations, discouragements, unbelief, and tears. And as you surrender, you will find courage again, for He will renew a steadfast spirit within you. He will restore to you a pure heart and the joy of your salvation. Once more, hymns will rise from your lips.

So you will laugh again, and you will jump again in faith. No longer will you hide in a cave of fear and doubt. You will step into the light, into a new season, and embrace the yellows—the warmth, the hope, the joy.

See! The winter is past;
    the rains are over and gone.
 Flowers appear on the earth;
    the season of singing has come,
the cooing of doves
    is heard in our land.
The fig tree forms its early fruit;
    the blossoming vines spread their fragrance.
Arise, come, my darling;
    my beautiful one, come with me.”
